Nocturne No. 13

Artistic director: Mark Bankin
Artist collaborators: Camilla Cason, Gabrielle Duval, Rosy Gentle, Holly Mitchell
Piano: Thomas Daae-Puissochet
Videographer: Naomi Christophe Filatriau, Elina Kastler
In collaboration with TheaterHaus Mitte Berlin and Fondation des États-Unis (Paris)

Produced by the Fondation des États-Unis in Paris, the performance begins at sunset and, with the Grand Hall's natural lighting, gradually gives way to darkness. The choreography emulates the structure of a sleep cycle. It was rehearsed in the middle of the night over the course of the residency using hypnosis to produce sleepwalking. Choreographed via incoherent movement notation diagrams for the nervous system transmitted to the dancers as partitions to mistranslate, this introspective dance considers 2017, the endurance of monuments, the fragility of archives, and hunger. Chopin's Nocturne No. 13 plays on repeat by concert pianist Thomas Daae-Puissochet.
